Understanding ABA Services and Diagnosis for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

What is Early Intervention?

At POP Therapies, early intervention means more than starting services early it means starting strong. Our ABA approach provides individualized 1:1 therapy tailored to each child’s unique strengths and challenges. We focus on building essential skills through structured play, communication, and daily routines to create lasting social, academic, and behavioral progress. Families are never alone in the process our team offers consistent parent support to guide, coach, and celebrate every step alongside you. By addressing challenges early and holistically, we help children grow with confidence and connection in every environment they’re part of.

We believe in building progress from the
ground up.

Foundation for Future Learning:

Early intervention lays the vital groundwork for a child’s educational journey. By addressing developmental challenges as they first appear, we set a stable platform for future academic and social achievements, equipping children with the skills they need to navigate their world.

Enhancing Commmunication skills:

Developing communication skills early on is fundamental. Early intervention helps bridge the gap for children with autism, facilitating a better understanding of their needs and expressions. This leads to reduced frustration and a more confident engagement with their environment.

Positive Behavioral Reinforcement:

Identifying and supporting positive behaviors from a young age can dramatically alter the trajectory of a child’s development. Early intervention programs prioritize these positive behaviors, encouraging children to adopt them regularly, thereby fostering a more adaptive and proactive approach to learning and interaction.

Every child learns differently which is why we offer ABA services in the setting that fits your family best: at home, in the community, at school, or in our Irvine clinic.

In Home ABA

Growing Together: Personalized ABA in the Comfort of Your Home

POP Therapies brings compassionate, personalized ABA therapy right into your home where your child feels safest and most supported. In-home services focus on meaningful daily routines like toileting, mealtime, play, and communication, all within the natural flow of your child’s environment. This approach helps reduce behavior challenges and build functional skills where they matter most. Our team partners closely with families to model strategies, coach parents, and make everyday moments more manageable, empowering your child to succeed right where life happens.

Community Based ABA

Expanding Horizons: ABA Support in Community Settings

POP Therapies’ Community-Based ABA helps your child build real-world skills in everyday places like the grocery store, the park, the library, or on family outings. These sessions support independence, safety, and confidence in public settings by practicing routines such as walking safely near streets, waiting in lines, or ordering food. We also work on reducing challenges like elopement or overwhelm in new environments. With the guidance of our supportive team, therapy becomes an opportunity to grow beyond the clinic and thrive in the spaces that matter most to your family.

School Based ABA

Academic Allies: ABA Support for School Success

POP Therapies’ School-Based ABA offers direct support inside your child’s educational setting whether that’s preschool, public school, or private learning environments. Our therapists collaborate with teachers, aides, and school teams to help your child stay focused, participate in class, and make smooth transitions. We assist with IEP or IEE goal implementation, classroom routines, and strategies to reduce disruptive behaviors that impact learning. By blending therapeutic goals with academic expectations, we help your child build confidence and independence in the classroom and beyond.

Frequently Asked Questions

Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects social interaction, communication, and behavior. It is a spectrum, meaning individuals with autism can have a wide range of strengths and challenges.

The exact cause of autism is still unknown, but it is believed to involve a combination of genetic and environmental factors.

It is best to discuss your concerns with your pediatrician. From there, your pediatrician may refer you to a specialist for various screenings. Specifically for an autism screening, it is typically performed by a neurologist, psychologist, or pediatric specialist.

This is still widely debated amongst pediatricians and specialists. In general, kids can begin receiving diagnoses as young as 12 months, but we typically see toddlers receiving diagnoses between the 18-30 month mark. The earlier your child receives a diagnosis and begins to get the help they need, the better. Early intervention is key to bridging the gaps in learning. If you’re being told to wait and it doesn’t seem right to you, go with your gut and get a second opinion. You know your child better than anyone!

The autism spectrum represents the range of challenges and strengths that individuals with autism may have. It includes a diverse group of people with varying degrees of impairment and abilities.

Therapies may include Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), early intervention (if under 3), speech therapy, occupational therapy, sensory integration therapy, physical therapy, and social skills groups or camps. The specific therapy depends on the individual’s needs.

It can be overwhelming to know where to start once your child has received a diagnosis. Peer reviewed and researched based approaches are going to give your child the best outcomes.  That’s why on most diagnostic paperwork, there will be recommendations from your specialist as to which therapist to start with. If ABA is a therapeutic approach you’d like to begin, you have 2 avenues you can take: 1. reach out to your insurance company and ask them which ABA company is within your network or, 2. reach out directly to ABA agencies to see if they accept your insurance. Make sure to ask about waitlist times as well. POP accepts most major insurances such as CalOptima, Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, Tricare, and Optum.

Here at POP we strongly believe in a multidisciplinary approach. We work closely with your child’s speech therapist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, physician, psychologist, and/or neurologist to ensure your child’s best outcome. We’ve seen how successful our clients can be when everyone is on the same page.

Ready to unlock your child’s potential with a plan designed just for them?

Our dedicated team at POP Therapies is eager to collaborate with you and craft a path to success that’s as unique as your child.
